Paranormal and Supernatural

I am busy writing the third book in my Van Helsing series and I have to admit that I am rather enjoying  it. The characters in the stories are like putting on an old pair of socks, utterly comfortable and once I have finished this book I will go straight on to writing the next.
I suppose that t is slightly hard to put an effective category on my stories. They have horror elements in that they deal with the creatures that go bump in the night but I have yet to feel the need in describing every single exposed sinew and muscle as other writers are wont to do. I think it more effective in briefly describing things pertaining to gore and letting the reader's imagination do the rest. There is one story that I am currently writing where gore is touched upon but that has more to do with the needs of the tale than anything else.
So I suppose that my stories deal in the supernatural for they describe a world that is not quite our own. a world that has monsters skulking about in the darkness, a world where the creatures of legend hide and are only exposed when Van Helsing hunts them.
Whatever genre you care to place them in, the primary purpose of my tales are to entertain, to afford you, the reader a few hours escape from the world. A chance to curl up in front of a fire on a cold winter's night in order to thrill in the exploits of the heroes. I do hope that you will enjoy them.

At the moment my books are selling but they are doing but a few a week. Sometimes I will sell two in one day but more usually it is a case of two a week. There are peaks and troughs in sales, mostly troughs!
I would like to sell more and I figured that if fifteen books are sold per day for some time to come then that will afford me more of a chance to write even more without worrying how to pay the bills. If you would be so kind as to spread the word about my books and allow more readers then I will be happier than someone in the world who is happy!

Van Helsing

I have been working on the second volume for the last few months since the first volume has been selling moderately well. Here's to it being more of a success!
All things being well the next book in the series should be available in late November so be sure to keep an eye out for that. I'm planing to do another volume in the early part of 2016 so keep an eye out for that one too!
The plan is to have five volumes of short stories written for the character, from his early days until tragedy strikes and he stops being a supernatural hunter until the events depicted in Dracula.
I'm enjoying the writing of the stories and seeing where the events surrounding him are taking him and also of the types of monsters he fights. So far there have been Egyptian Mummies, Werewolves, Demons and Ghouls in the depths of Paris. Some of these stories are in the first volume whilst others will be found in the second.

Zombies and Pirates

It has come to my attention that there is a site out there that has pirated my books and is offering them for those who do not wish to pay. That's fine and dandy, they are being downloaded by those who won't have paid anyway, even if there are no sites like that. Even so, there are some who MIGHT have bought the book if it were not for the fact that the pirate is offering them. Such a thing means a loss of revenue for the likes of myself who need to try and earn a living out of writing.
If it does continue then there is perhaps a case for not writing anything anymore and as such, this will deny future readers the pleasure of reading any future works of mine. This also applies to those who will want to write and do the same. In this situation, future potential Tolkiens', Tolstoys' and the like will never be discovered since their works will not see the light of day for fear of pirating. Your loss if you want a freebie.
On the more positive side, those who have downloaded my books have given them higher than average ratings so they must be good! And the fact that rather a lot of people have downloaded them  also augers well for liking my books.
So with this in mind, it would be best in all honesty to buy the books from Amazon and enjoy them legitimately and I will then have the courage to write more works for you to enjoy. If you just want them free, why should I do all this hard work for nothing?
So please support me in my endeavors, if you do, this will enable me to become a better writer and to put out more works.

Zombie trilogy

Well I have re-written the books in the trilogy. Hopefully errors are now at a minimum. If you do spot any, please let me know. If you wish to contact me to talk about the books feel free to do so. My email address can be found at the back of either of the books. So please read them and enjoy!
I have also given them new covers depicting the change in blood as the zombie virus takes hold, I think that they are a bit better than the old ones! Let me know if you like them or not.

I have now finished working on Atlantis and from what I can gather, episodes of the new season will be shown in the fall. Take a look out for little old me running around in the background! Next week I will be working on a new show, should be fun :-)

Zombie books, working as an extra.

I've done the revisions for the first two books in the trilogy and I'd been busy going over the third in order to knock it in a more acceptable reading shape. So far I'm about half way. It should be done in the next two to three weeks.
It would have been done sooner than this but I've been called to work as an extra in a BBC production called "Atlantis" which is being filmed a few miles away from my humble abode.
I've already done some work and this weekend I'll be out there doing several more scenes as a villager on the show.
Because of this and overnight stays near the studio, I have been forced to put the editing on a back burner. Hopefully normal service will resume shortly, when it does, I'll get right back on to it.
My advice will be for you not to purchase the book just yet. As soon as you see the words "revised *date*" on the blurb you will know that it is ready.

Finished editing

The first book has been looked at and several errors such as run on sentences have been eliminated. Spelling errors have also been shot gunned into oblivion. I cannot promise that I've got them all, despite my looking at the damn thing several times.
I have also changed one or two things around so they make a bit more sense. The new version went up on Amazon this morning and I think (although I cannot be entirely sure) the updated versions will pop up on your kindle automatically.
Perfection can never be really attained but one can come damn close, to this end please give me some feedback and let me know if the work is improved or not.
I'll be spending some time going over the other two books in a similar manner so that they will provide good reading for you once you've purchased them :-)

Editing

The books have been selling which is great but I have also been getting feedback. Particularly about my grammar. This is fair enough, after all I did ask for constructive feedback!
Armed with the information I've been getting I am now going to spend the next month going over the books and trying to knock them into acceptable shape.
For those who've bought the books and downloaded them, fear not, the revisions will go to your kindle without extra cost. You should get an email from Amazon stating that revision have been made and would you like them? Just say yes, and the revised books will arrive automatically.
I will apologize to those who got the books and found the writing not great, I had gone over them a few times but it appears I didn't do the job so well.
So please do accept my regrets that this has happened and I will endeavor to do far better in my next books!

Last day of free book

Right now I'm busy working on my sixth novel with a view to having it completed during the summer. I have said before that it is a work about a serial killer and the attempts the authorities are making in tracking him down.
So far its going well with about 30,000 words done to date.
Once that's finished with I will post up the details on here and elsewhere. After a short rest I will start working on another book that I have had bubbling away in the back of my mind since I thought of the plot. Should be interesting to see how that one goes.
Hopefully I'll be done with that by Christmas of this year and if I manage to do so, I will have seven books to my name on the kindle. Be sure to check them out!

Writing Part whatever

One of the bugbears I have in the writing process is the editing. I'm only too happy to get the story down and head towards my goals within the tales, often I find myself going off on tangents and wondering where they will go but then I'll take the tale back on track. That part is the fun part for me.
What I'm not so keen on is the editing, it's tedious.
Firstly I go through the manuscript obliterating any spelling mistakes.
Secondly I go through it line by line, paragraph by paragraph so that the words flow and make sense, plus taking out any spelling errors I'd missed.
Thirdly I go through it to make sure I haven't made any errors such as going left when i should have gone right.
Then finally I go over it one last time to see all the kinks ironed out.
By the time that's done my eyes are bleeding, my brain is so much zombie mush and I'm growing to hate the thing.
Then I give it a quick read and that's that, It's done and ready for publishing.
I have often wondered if many authors, unable to afford a proofreader, have to go through the same process as I do. Judging by some of the stuff I've read from Indie authors I doubt that they do, not all of them but enough of them. That means that after going through a few pages of badly written text I delete the books from my Kindle. This is the reason why I force myself to go through this tedious part of working on a book, any reader who finds my tales rubbish due to all the mistakes in grammar, syntax and spelling would be fully justified in doing the same thing to my works, deleting them.
I do know of one author who has edited her book to the nth degree, trying to make sure that it is right, it's perfect and it's all that she wants it to be, fine and dandy but she's been doing that for over a year and really, she should be pushing it out there. Such an effort by her to hone her work will probably result in a book that's bland and without any exciting stuff that makes you want to turn the pages. Then again she might be producing another Grapes of Wrath. It may well be that she would get rewarded for all her effort and if not, then all her hard work and dithering was for naught.
This is why I only go through the steps I've outlined above since I want to have the book refreshing and exciting for the reader, doing too much will result in a stagnant work, that's my opinion anyway.
I also know that there are a lot of singleton writers out there, publish one book on the Kindle and sit back to watch the money flow in, they might as well try for a lottery ticket, they'd have the same amount of odds. On the other hand they might find a well of luck and the work becomes a best seller, I won't count on it however!
Thus this is my plan, to write for the next five years (this year being year one) with hopefully at least three books coming out each year.
If after plugging away, marketing and letting people know, plus word of mouth, I don't make any sort of success at the end of that time then perhaps I had better move on  to something else. But at least I can honestly say that I've tried, I've given it a go and I will stand or fall by what I've done.
Naturally I will want success but that comes at the price of sheer hard work and with no easy fix. Keep plugging away for those five years and see where I am at the end of it.
Hopefully by the end of that time I will be adding to this blog from my holiday home in Norway :-)

Zombies again!

I am pleased to let you know that this morning I've finished the main block of writing on the book, the story is down and ended, now I will be spending the next two weeks going over it line by line to ensure that it reads well and the errors, if any, are kept  to the absolute minimum. This means of course going over it several times until I'm satisfied that it is a book that people would be happy to read.
The rewards are in you, the reader, getting pleasure out of it and hopefully giving me good reviews.
Not only that, I'd like to see a lot of people buying it so I can pay my bills!
After it is up on the kindle I will be hard at work next month writing on another book, as I had said before I'm already 25,000 words into it. I have no idea of how big it will turn out to be but I have found myself enjoying working out the story line in my head and seeing where it goes, the fruit of all that will be once I've started typing away here on my keyboard and seeing the tale being fleshed out. It may go in directions I hadn't anticipated but that is all part of the fun.
It's the editing process I'm not too keen on, I really do enjoy telling the tale but I don't enjoy going over it time and again to get rid of the spelling mistakes, the grammar errors and sorting out the fact that the character should have gone left instead of right. By the time I've done all that I am a little sick of seeing the story if I'm honest. It has to be done, in order to prevent the reader getting frustrated at sloughing through numerous errors. I can't promise I'll get them all for it is just little old me working all on my lonesome here, I cannot afford the price of a proofreader but rest assured, if and when the time comes that I am able to, I will definitely hire one!
In any case once it is out that's it, I don't intend to return to the zombie genre for a long long while, unless there is a demand from the fans of my works for more tales in that vein.
Hopefully if things go smoothly , you should have the book on your kindle sometime over the next fortnight or so.
If you buy it that is and if you do, I hope you'll really enjoy it!

Zombies

Working hard at the third and final book of the trilogy and I'm pleased to say that the end is nearly in sight. It's been a bit of a haul getting to this point and I'm happy with the way the work has been going.
I have to apologize to the fans of the first two books who'd been expecting the third way before now but I was struck by a series of unavoidable delays. so please accept my apologies.
Once I've done this main block of writing right up to the end then I'm going over the book a few times to iron out spelling and grammar mistakes and also eliminate any inconsistencies. Once done it'll be published for the Kindle.
So it may be another three to four weeks before I'm entirely finished with it so please be patient, it'll be worth it in the end.
Hopefully those who've followed the series will find it a satisfying read, I can tell you that it is longer than the first two books so that should keep even the most avid Zombie reader happy!
To commemorate the publishing of this final book I will also be giving the first book away for free for about a week so keep an eye out for any announcements here on this blog, plus a link to the free book.
